Requirements

Qualifications

  • A minimum of (5) years of working experience is required, with a chemical or technical specialty.
  • Preferably with Industrial Exposure: Mining, Oil/Gas plants, Petrochemical, Power Plants, Ammonia Plants, Sulfuric acids Plants
  • Must work well with less supervision.
  • Advanced trouble shooting skills.
  • Advanced Technical and mechanical abilities.
  • Able to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Physically fit and able to lift 25 kilograms.
  • Able to speak and write reports in English language.
  • Good work attitude, responsible and good moral character.

Advanced knowledge of distributed control systems DCS, computers, telephones and portable radios.

Job Description:

The DCS-Control Room Operator reports to a Shift or Plant Supervisor. CR Operator positions operate within the Utilities, Pressure Acid Leach or the Refinery. These positions involve operating several types of process equipment from the control room to safely and efficiently produce nickel and cobalt as well as the byproducts created from the production of nickel and cobalt. Control room operations at Ambatovy require:

  • Operation and control of plant equipment subject to high-pressures including boilers, autoclaves, filters, pumps, valves, heat-exchangers, thickeners, etc.
  • Operation and control of equipment containing hazardous substances including hydrogen sulphide, anhydrous ammonia, sulphuric acid, hydrogen, low pressure gas, etc. 
  • Quality control of finished products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in a team environment to successfully, safely and efficiently operate equipment containing hazardous substances to achieve plant production targets.
  • Understand and follow procedures and policies to ensure the health and safety of all workers and Environmental compliance.
  • Work with advanced process control equipment to monitor and control plant processes.
  • Trouble-shoot complex process and/or equipment problems.
  • Read process gauges and meters and record all relevant information on log sheets.
  • Identify, rectify and report all equipment and process related problems.
  • Safely prepare basic equipment for maintenance, following established procedures and policies.
  • Complete all required safety related documents including safe work permits, blinding sheets, lock registry, etc. and ensure all work is carried out safely.
  • Complete log sheets and shift reports.
  • Actively participate in operational meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Understand the Plant from a control standpoint and operate according to procedures within targets and guidelines.
  • Monitor, control and coordinate all input and output process flows related to area of responsibility including management of all major tank levels.
  • Respond to all alarms by making the necessary adjustments from the DCS to safely and efficiently operate the plant and direct Field Operators as required.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other Plant Control Operators all information that will affect the overall operation of the plant.
  • Initiate and coordinate emergency response plan if required.
  • Communicate plant operating/equipment conditions to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Environmentally responsible to ensure all releases or spills are minimized, reported and documented.
  • Environmentally responsible to ensure specific stacks are monitored and controlled within the operating boundaries.
  • Keep up to date on all instructions and changes related to area of responsibility.
  • Communicate and document operating knowledge to ensure instructions, training and testing materials are accurate and current.
